Coastal Georgia Council Earth Tribe 2.0 2024-2025

Welcome to the next iteration of the Earth Tribe program for Coastal Georgia Council! This program is designed to be more challenging for Scouts who want to make an impact and really come to better understand conservation and outdoor ethics. While some opportunities may complete requirements towards merit badges, the program is made to facilitate Scouts earning the BSA Distinguished Conservation Award and training them to become Outdoor Ethics Guides for their units.

All programming will take part at Camp Tolochee. All Scouts participating must have at least one registered leader from their unit attend the activity weekends with them. Scouts need to be prepared to do research and work in between meetings.

This is not a merit badge university or summer camp class. Scouts will be expected to be active and engaged throughout the four weekends of the program. All potential participants should review the participant guide for expectations before registering.

Registration Costs

The cost of registration includes all four weekends of camping, meals, and program materials.

FAQ

Does my Scout have to attend all weekends?

No, however, it is harder for them to complete their project if they do not attend. Weekends that are missed may have a way to be made up, work with the program director for assistance. Any weekends missed will not be prorated in the registration fee.

Will the 2 conservation projects be completed over the 4 weekend?

Only the first project will get done IF they plan it accordingly. The planning and execution is on them. The weekends are scheduled to facilitate it, so on them to maximize those. It is about a year to get one project done as it requires research before and follow up after (about six months of monitoring) to ensure the plan worked. The second project they will have to do on their own, but we will help facilitate them with a community partner to establish a project.

Will any of the required merit badges be earned?

Some merit badge work will get done during the course of the projects. That will get outlined as projects get worked on. At the first weekend, we will find out which badges Scouts do and do not have, and work on those from there.
